about

CROSS THE CITY SKY (demo) / WALK THROUGH THE DOOR (demo)

These two recordings go even further back in our history to the ‘Ping Pong’ era with Mark Proctor on drums. I recalled us performing Cross The City Sky over 30 years ago but had no idea that we had ever recorded it. Walk Through The Door was so obscure that I had forgotten about it completely. Imagine my amazement when Jan Eric unearthed these two live demos from the early 80’s which would have most certainly ended up on Sticks And Stones had it been issued a few years earlier. These tunes are typical of Mark Tootle’s early writing when he helped front the band and shared lead vocal duties with me. He would eventually branch out musically and blossom lyrically to become one of best pop songwriters I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

lyrics

Look long at your tomorrows
Yesterday has left a clue
There's but one door we can follow
Check your pulse then walk on through

Don't talk about the mountain
Til you climb it's peak
Don't talk about the holy book
Til you hear it speak

Don't talk about no foreign lands
Til you walk their shore
Don't talk about the other room
Til you walk through the door

Walk through the door
