about

THIS IS THE WAY LOVE IS (live) / THE DAYS TO COME (live) / PEARLS BEFORE SWINE (live) / BOTTOM LINE (live) / THIS IS THE WAY LOVE IS (live/encore)

During the late 1980’s, the Wild Blue Yonder club in Fresno afforded us a popular venue to test drive new material as well as expand and experiment with older songs in our catalog. Shalom would occasionally record board mixes of our shows for us to critique later. Usually they would upset him and us so greatly that they would get tossed into the back of the van, never to be heard again (anyone in a band can relate to this).

Unfortunately, 24 years later when you’re hoping to share with your fans just how great you thought your band was in concert, unearthing these suddenly priceless but rejected artifacts can often become a fruitless search for a kind of sonic holy grail. Typically, it is the bass player of the band that can be counted on to be the collector of the almighty archives of which you will inevitably seek. And thankfully, Jan Eric came through in spades when he delivered to us this wonderfully documented show from the ‘Blue’ in 1988. Here are some of the highlights from that concert that feature more spaced out versions of some of the tunes from Sticks And Stones and its surrounding era. As would be expected, it is far from perfect sonically and performance-wise, but enough of the raw energy from the group comes through so strongly that we felt it would be fun to share it with you on this bonus disc. Many thanks to Shalom for taking the time before the show to create this separate rough mix as it is now part of the precious little we have left of those exciting times.
